The Garage Studio is a beautiful flint-faced, slated building restored from a humble wreck claiming the status of garage but actually being nothing less than a store for junk.
Tenderly rebuilt by my long-suffering husband and a team of enthusiastic workers, it is now a warm and welcoming space, beautifully lit by natural and specially designed lighting. It is where I can spread out my materials, play, experiment, and generally make a mess as I work on the current project.
It is also a stunning venue, which lends itself beautifully to small exhibitions, classes and workshops. Students seem to love the space as much as I do as they freely explore their creativity without fear of spoiling their own home furnishings … worrying about ruining the carpet in the spare room is a crippling burden for any artist to bear.
The Studio can be found in Steyning village, please contact me for more detailed instructions on how to get here (also see map below). There are three parking spaces by the studio and I’m lucky to have some very accommodating neighbours who don’t object to students parking during a class.
Inside the house, students have all the facilities they need including a designated kitchen with the usual appliances, fridge, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and so on.
Classes at The Garage Studio usually start at 10.00am so we aim to muster at around 9.45am in the house for coffee, home-made cake or cookies. Lunch can be enjoyed in the garden, weather permitting, or inside in the rest area. Unless included in the course description, students usually need to bring their own lunch, or get something from the nearby shops or cafes.
